Dog Training Techniques To Put An End To Habitual Barking

When a dog barks, it's so that your dog can communicate something to whoever's listening. You already knew that, but did you know they're barking to talk to you? They want more food, they need to go to the bathroom, they want a walk. When a dog barks habitually, however, this isn't tolerable. Use these dog training techniques to help you stop this habit.

Being strict with your obedience training is really the only way to stop all the barking. Your pet will need you to assert your place as the head of the pack, and that means you'll have to be a little tough. Dogs understand a pecking order, so stick with a strict plan of attack.

A great way to achieve this is to use a prong collar. You'll need to train your dog that this is wrong, that is right, as a first order of business. Show them when it's OK to bark, and then put on their prong collar to take them through the phase of correction and distraction, as shown with the collar, to get them to improve.

You'll need to use the collar in order to get your pet to realize that disobedience won't be tolerated. Your dog shouldn't be barking too much just because someone came into the room, or because you're entertaining. You don't need to put up with barking during mealtimes, because your pet wants some food. Make the corrections quickly, without hesitation, and firmly, without causing fear, but gaining your dog's respect.

This process will take a while. Your pet will at first be a bit shocked at the changes being made, that is normal. Your dog will soon learn that the corrections are for this bad behavior and they'll learn to stop the behavior. Dogs quickly learn their place, and will do as they are told, in order to get your praise.

The first part of this training will have you leave the collar on your dog the whole day, and you will take it off at night. That way you can grab a hold of the collar when your dog begins to act up and bark too much. The faster that you correct the behavior, the sooner you'll enjoy relief from the problem.

The other part of these dog training techniques is to be sure to use a crate when they act improper around guests. You don't need to be concerned about them smelling your guests when they first arrive, but when the aggression comes out or they start to bark, send your dog to his crate.
